Doherty (Gerard) is born in Charlestown.

The son of Edward and Helen (Rowan) Doherty, Gerard Doherty lives his entire life in the family home on Washington Street, meets John F. Kennedy at the Bunker Hill Day parade in 1947, and goes to work in all the subsequent campaigns of John, Robert, and Edward Kennedy. He graduates from Harvard University and Suffolk Law School, becomes a real estate lawyer and developer, marries Marilyn Dillon, and, after her death, Regina Quinlan. Doherty serves in the Massachusetts House of Representatives, then on the board of numerous non-profit and charitable boards. He dies in Charlestown on June 16, 2020, and his buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden.
